On 9th of November 2017, in the premises of Hotel "Drina" in Bijeljina, within the framework of the implementation of the "Cross-border Action for the Establishment of the Biosphere Reserve in the Drina River Basin", the Center for Environmentally Sustainable Development - CESD in cooperation with the Ecological Association Eco Put organized a Round Table on advocacy for the natural values and the protection of the lower part and the mouth of the Drina River.
Participants of the Round Table were representatives of institutions from both sides of the Drina River, primarily representatives from the town administration of Bijeljina City as hosts, representatives of the institutions of the competent water management institution Vode Srpske, Bijeljina, and from the City Administration of Sremska Mitrovica and Bogatić Municipality as well as from the State Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia. Representatives of the Sremska Mitrovica Forest Movement as the manager of the Zasavica Special Reserve, representatives of the Union of Ecologists from Belgrade, Eko Drina from Badovinci, and representatives of the Bijeljina Ecological Forces Association attended the Roundtable as well and contributed to the fruitful discussion.
The initiative is launched by the Eco Association of Eko Put Bijeljina on behalf of Ecological Forces Association of Bijeljina together with U.G. CESD from Sarajevo and UNEKO Ecologist from Serbia, Faculty of Applied Ecology Futura, Serbia, Eko Drina Association from Badovinci Bogatić Municipality and Forest Movement Sremska Mitrovica.
The goal of this project is to strengthen the capacities of civil society organizations for their participation in decision-making and the future establishment of the cross-border biosphere reserve of the lower part and the mouth of the Drina River.
