Project Growing Sustainable Practices for Protection, Promotion, and Management of Natural Resources is implemented by the Centre for Environmentally Sustainable Development ( CESD) from Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with the Municipality Pljevlja from Montenegro under the IPA programme of crossborder cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro 2007 - 2013.
Overall objective is to contribute to protection, promotion and capacity building for sound management of areas of outstanding natural value (AONV) with the purpose of development of tourism and other alternative economic activities at the same time preserving natural resources.
The specific objectives of the project are to to provide tools for sound management of areas of outstanding natural value, to educate and transfer of know-how to managers related to sound management of natural resources and sustainable (eco)tourism, to involve local community in development of (eco)tourism and tourist activities, and to increase awareness of local community including local inhabitants on opportunities and benefits of living in areas of outstanding natural value through promotion of alternative economic activities and tourism development
The project is implemented in three protected areas in Canton Sarajevo: Vrelo Bosne, Skakavac, Bijambare in Bosnia and Herzegovina and municipality Pljevlja in relation to protection of Mountain Ljubišnja in Montenegro.
The project resulted in development of Study on valorisation of natural values and management tools development for all protected areas involved, training of managers in different topics related to sound management of natural resources and sustainable (eco) tourism, activities with local producers and tourist organisations on development of alternative economic activities in accordance with proposed regimes in protected areas and exchange of know-how between managers of AONVs, local producers and tourist organizations in two countries.
